Basic & general question about CS

Hi,
I'm totally new to all this and its all very confusing. Does Acamd and/or Oscam replace a physical card reader or do I still need one installed ?
I'm trying to view encrypted sat channels (sky etc) on win 7 with progDVB and HD Star DVB-S installed.
Is there any tutorial for dummies on that subject ?

This is about a program called Hadu but it didn't address whether I need a physical card reader or not if I'm running acamd and/or oscam along with ProgDVB
