Dish size guide 53E to 30W by William-1 February 2023
This Dish size guide is for Active Ku Band Satellites that I received in the East of England
Fully revised & updated February 13th 2023 (53 east to 30 west)

This is just a guide some transmissions may require a larger dish depending on your location,

Also remember if you are after feeds these are sometimes a lot weaker & require a larger dish.

Thank you @william-1 for this guide. Very informative.

If doesn't already exist, I wonder if the mods @barney115, @Ferret can set up a tutorial or
library section of the website where useful information like this can be stored and referred to
whenever posters and/or forum members need it?

PS: Just an FYI it would be great if someone could do a similar guide for C-band. I know it's
not as popular as KU, but still very interesting information in my opinion. Maybe @moonbase
and/or @barney115 would do this if time permits?

Do'nt have C-band so no options here to do that .
And its so easy to copy paste the above post in a link to the post in question just like this => William-1 Strongest TP'S guide

So no real need for opening any new sub sections or anything else when a simple copy/pasted link does the job perfectly well : )

I have no intention of creating a guide for C-Band reception in the UK, there is a specific section for C-Band and a dedicated topic for UK reception on the forum that covers this exact subject.


Here, it is the 1st topic in the list, did you bother to check?


My personal opinion is that a 1.8m dish is the very minimum size for half reasonable reception of C-Band in a UK location.
Anything smaller such as a 1.5m or as small as a 1.2m will get limited reception from some of the stronger satellites but the number of lockable frequencies will be greatly reduced.

For serious C-Band reception across most of the arc visible to the UK a 2.4m dish is needed.
Personally, I use a 2.0m dish which is OK but not ideal.

It really depends if there are any specific satellites that are required or if it is just general across the arc reception.

Thanks @moonbase. I'm not particularly great at searching and finding the specific posts that I find interesting, but I do try.
