Vivendi confirms TVN talks
08.20 Europe/London, October 3, 2011 By Chris Dziadul
Vivendi has confirmed that it is in negotiations to buy a controlling stake in the Polish broadcaster TVN, whose interests include the DTH platform n.

Speaking to Parkiet, Jean-René Fourtou, chairman of the supervisory board, said that the company is interested in forming a consortium, ideally with a Polish partner or one that has extensive experience in the Polish market, in its bid for TVN.

However, he refused to confirm that that the partner could be France Telecom.

The latter already backs TPSA, the incumbent Polish telco, while Vivendi is behind Canal+ Cyfrowy, the operator of the Polish DTH platform Cyfra+.

Industry sources believe the TVN group will be sold off in parts, with platform n being of particular interest to Vivendi.

TVN was put up for sale in July and is known to be attracting interest from a number of media companies and private equity groups.

Time Warner, which already backs CME, on of the leading vertically integrated media companies in the CEE region with interests in six countries, is understood to be one of the favourites.
