Viewster VOD comes to Samsung, Grundig

Viewster’s on-demand video application will be carried by Samsung devices on all platforms and in all territories. The compnay also announced a deal with Turkish device manufacturer Arçelik for its Grundig brand.
The new agreement with Samsung involves TV sets, Blu-ray players, smartphones and tablets and will include 3D content. The Viewster application, which gives access to Viewster’s on demand catalogue of movies and TV shows, will be available through Samsung Apps for 2010 and 2011 Smart TVs, as well as on blu-ray players in over 120 countries. Similarly, Viewster will be offered on Smart TVs and blu-ray players within Samsung’s ‘Explore 3D’ 3D Video on Demand service and in ‘Your Video’, which delivers recommendations based on a user’s viewing history.
In the mobile space, Viewster’s Android and Bada 2.0 based mobile applications will be included on key Samsung smartphone models, allowing its state of the art on demand movie service to be experienced across Galaxy smartphones and tablets as well as Wave smartphones.
The Viewster multiplatform VOD application enables viewing across multiple devices using a single sign on. This means a user can begin watching a movie at home on their Samsung Smart TV, then resume viewing on their Galaxy Tab while waiting for a friend in a café with wi-fi.
Arçelik is operating in over one hundred territories including China and the US with a wide range of brands. Viewster-enabled sets under the Grundig brand will initially be available in the key European markets of Germany, Croatia, Spain, France and Italy, with Scandinavia, Russia, the Balkan states and the Middle East following shortly after.
Viewster will be included on Grundig’s new 40″ to 55″ 3D connected TV models starting in September 2011. Akin Garzanli, Arçelik TV product manager, said in a statement: “Exclusive applications (apps) will provide quick and easy access to information on topics such as health and lifestyle or the latest news stories. With Viewster we now have also integrated a state-of-the-art VOD service for breathtaking television entertainment from the internet, also in 3D.”
