Viasat inks major NBC deal

Viasat Broadcasting has signed a multi-year licensing agreement with NBCUniversal International Television Distribution for pay-TV rights for Russia, Ukraine and CIS.

Under the terms of the deal between the two parties, which is for first-run and library NBCUniversal films, content will be broadcast on MTG’s TV1000 Premium HD and TV1000Megahit premium channels across the region, as well as made available as subscription video on demand (SVOD) content on MTG’s Viaplay online pay-TV service in Russia.

Viasat Broadcasting now has agreements with four or the six major Hollywood Studios.

Separately, Viasat Broadcasting has launched a new package HD channels which has ben made available to Rostelecom’s ‘Interactive TV’ subscribers.

Known as Viasat Premium HD, it consists of Viasat’s two new premium HD movie channels (TV1000 Premium HD and TV1000 Megahit HD), the new dedicated comedy channel (TV1000 Comedy HD) and two Viasat HD documentary channels (Viasat History HD and Viasat Nature HD).

The move is significant in that it is the first time that Viasat Broadcasting has made a complete pay-TV channel package available in Russia.

Viasat Broadcasting has signed a new multi-year licensing agreement for the pay-TV rights in Russia, Ukraine and the other CIS countries to first-run and library NBCUniversal films.

The content will be broadcast by Modern Times Group (owner of Viasat) on its TV1000 Premium HD and TV1000 Megahit HD premium movie channels across the region, and be made available as subscription video-on demand (SVOD) content on MTG’s Viaplay online pay-TV service in Russia.

NBCUniversal’s movie portfolio offers a wide range of recent hit theatrical releases including feature films such as ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’, ‘The Lorax’, ‘Safe House’, ‘The Bourne Legacy’ and ‘Ted’.

Modern Times Group’s operations span four continents and include free-TV, pay-TV, radio and content production businesses. It is also the largest shareholder in Russia’s leading independent TV broadcaster, CTC Media.
