UPC Netherlands decrypts main channels
March 27, 2013 09.56 Europe/London By Robert Briel

UPC Netherlands will offer the 29 main popular channels, 12 regional and local broadcasters as its standard, unencrypted digital TV offer.

In addition, the three main national public channels, Nederland 1, 2 and 3 will be available in HD as part of the unencrypted offer. The cabler will introduce the new offer on April 3.

According to the operator around 40% of its connected homes have at least one DVB-C equipped receiver. At the moment, 1,078,000 homes out of the toal of 1.7 million subscribers take digital TV.

The move follows similar developments with other Liberty Global owned networks in Europe, Unitymedia KabelBW in Germany, UPC Cablecom in Switzerland and UPC Austria.

UPC Netherlands will also be introducing a new 4-tied triple play offer with the standard package costing EUR49.95. Top tier is the Extreme Power package, retailing at EUR88.95 which includes the Horizon TV product, 200Mbps broadband access, unlimited telephony and includes the Film1 premium movie channel.

The 29 channels comprise the most popular channels including the main commercial Dutch broadcasters RTL, SBS, Flemish public channels VRT, BBC 1, BBC 2, BBC World. News, ARD, ZDF CNN, Discovery, National Geographic, Eurosport and more.

The operator is also upgrading all its current broadband customers to a higher speed. UPC will concentrate its new internet access offer with a minimum speed of 60Mbps.
