UPC holds Hungarian top spot

UPC maintained its position as the leading overall provider of pay-TV services in Hungary this October, claiming a market share of 26.1%, according to data published by the regulator NMHH.

Digi was in second place with 23%, followed by T-Home (22.1%) and Tarr and PR-Telecom (both 3.3%).

UPC was also the leading provider of wired (cable/IPTV)-delivered pay-TV services with a 27.8% share, followed by T-Home (19.2%), Digi (15.3%) and Tarr (4.7%).

However, in the wireless (DTH and MMDS) sector, Digi claimed a 41.4% share, with T-Home in second place with 29% and UPC Direct in third with 22.2%.

The total number of digital TV subscriptions stood at 1,604,325, with DTH/MMDS claiming 902,402, cable 662,068 and the DTT platform MinDig TV Extra 39,855.

The latter’s take-up has since risen to around 44,000.
