Unprotected gaming puts users at risk of infection

Thu Oct 07 2010,

THE MOST INFECTED game websites, allegedly, has been listed by Avast Software as part of its monthly insecurity awareness raising pronouncements.

According to Avast gamers are at risk of encountering malware as they access and play online titles because they often disengage virus protection to not slow response times down during play or slow content downloads.

Six websites are alleged to be the most infected by Avast. They are Gamefactoryinteractive.com, Games-digest.com, Mariogamesplay.com, anywhere-games.com, galacticflashgames.com and towerofdefense.com.

Avast's chief technical officer Ondrej Vlcek, or Sherlock has we like to call him, said, "As the gaming industry continues to grow, hackers will inevitably develop more ways to target this massive group."

But fear not because Avast provides four simple tips, which are not in an order of importance, but rather the stating of the blatantly obvious. So they are, don't turn off your anti virus software while playing online, keep your antivirus programme fully updated, beware of downloading games through warez sites and finally, use Avast's silent, gaming mode function. Nice plug there for your own product Avast.
