Univision Deportes acquires US broadcast rights for Chivas de Guadalajara
Gabriel Miramar-Garcia | 23-07-2012

Univision Deportes will become the US home of Chivas de Guadalajara, one of the most popular soccer teams in the United States and Mexico.

The multi-year deal is effective July 2013 and includes all languages and platforms and will grant Univision Deportes the rights to all of Chivas' Liga MX, Copa Mexico and worldwide friendlies across all platforms.

"This deal reinforces Univision's commitment to provide the best and most relevant programming to Hispanic audiences," said Cesar Conde, president of Univision Networks, in a statement. "We are pleased to continue to deliver the culturally relevant content our audience seeks, while creating opportunities for our partners to connect with the fastest growing consumer segment in the nation."

"Univision Deportes secured the first ever multi-media, all language, multi-year deal with Chivas," added Juan Carlos Rodriguez, president of Univision Sports. "We will continue growing all of our platforms and are proud to be the new home for Chivas in the U.S."

Chivas is the most successful team in Liga MX, the premier football league in Mexico, having won 11 First Division titles. The only club in Mexico to exclusively field players of Mexican heritage, Chivas has always emphasised its home-grown players, and has been the launching pad of many internationally revered stars such as Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez - now with England's second most successful football club, Manchester United - Carlos Vela and Omar Bravo.

In addition to Chivas, Univision holds exclusive U.S. media rights to the home games of Toluca, Pumas de la UNAM, Monterrey, Tigres de la UANL, America, Pachuca, Tijuana, Santos, San Luis, Queretaro, Atlas and Atlante, plus away games for the rest of the league's teams.
