TVP looks to regional DTT
08.45 Europe/London, August 31, 2011 By Chris Dziadul

The Polish public broadcaster TVP has revealed that it plans to launch 16 regional DTT channels by 2013.

Quoted in Wirtualne Media, its president Juliusz Braun said that they would cover the 16 voivodships (territories) that make up the country.

However, he also said that that their launch would be dependent on TVP’s method of funding being resolved within the next two years.

Although the public broadcaster currently operates a channel named TVP Info that includes four-hour regional slots, it has been interested in launching regional channels since 2008.

However, these would have operated on a metropolitan basis, serving large cities.

The commercial broadcaster TVN operated a metropolitan channel in the capital, Warsaw, which it closed earlier this year.

Cyfrowy Polsat launches LTE service

Cyfrowy Polsat launches LTE service
10.33 Europe/London, August 31, 2011 By Chris Dziadul

The leading Polish DTH platform Cyfrowy Polsat has commercially launched its LTE technology-based internet service.

Initially, it is being priced identically to that of its HSPA+ technology-based offer, with prices started at PLN29 (€6.17) a month for a 3 Gb package, rising to PLN99 for 25 Gb.

Although Cyfrowy Polsat is not guaranteeing any minimum access speeds, the maximum achievable is likely to reach up to 100 Mbps.

Speaking to the local press, Cyfrowy Polsat president Dominik Libicki said that the LTE service still faces a number of technical problems including a shortage of modems and limited coverage.
