Trying to reflash Envision 500 satellite

Hi,

I've brought what turns out to be a DM500s clone back from the Middle East. It was running a version of Nabilosat but had been configured so I couldn't get in to change anything. On the basis that it's no use as it is, I decided to reflash it. I have a null modem cable and have been able to communicate using Dreamup. However, when I try to upload a new image, after a minute or two it comes up with "error - upload aborted". I have tried various images and the only difference is the length of time before I get the error message. Questions:-

1 - does anyone have a modem cable pin connection that definitely works? My cable connects 2 to 3 and vice versa, and the two 5s are connected together, but I wonder if there maybe other pin connections that may be necessary.

2 - is it possible that Dreamup has killed the bootloader and if so is there a fix?

3 - any other help gratefully received by this newbie!!

Best regards http://www.sat-universe.com/images/smilies/smile.

Tried 1.3.3.2 and 1.3.3.4 and 1.3.3.9. All work to the point where I get communication and a ping back OK. But then, they all get the "error - upload aborted" part-way through trying to upload an image.

Tried again today with several earlier versions of DreamUp and it's just the same "error - upload aborted". I've tried several different images too. always the same problem.

Any help gratefully received.

Flashing Envision 500 - finally cracked it!

Hi,

After many failed attempts with laptop PC running Windows 7, with USB to serial convertor and null modem cable, tried the following which ACTUALLY WORKED!!:-

- Windows XP on ancient tower PC
- Null modem 9 pin D to 9 pin D cable - direct to PC, !!NO!! USB convertor. Cable was wired 3 to 2, 2 to 3, 4 to 6, 6 to 4, 5 to 5, 7 to 8, 8 to 7. Not sure if all these "crosses" are necessary, but it worked for me.
- Dreamup 1.3.2.1
- all firewalls OFF
- Open Pli-beta dm500 20130505-305 image

I'm sure loads of other combinations will work, but the above may help others who have had similar problems.

Rgds :thum:
