Trade union slams bus driver weigh-in

A trade union in Lithuania has criticised a mass weigh-in of bus drivers.

Elena Diniene, head of a local trade union in the northern city of Siauliai, told AFP that transport firm Busturas is using body mass index, health profiles and blood pressure as factors when deciding wage increases for employees.

Diniene said: "Over a hundred bus drivers were weighed to calculate their body mass index.

"We cannot call it nothing other than a mockery. If they do not reconsider we will appeal to the courts."

Director of Busturas Vilius Lauzikas reportedly told the Siauliu Krasta newspaper: "We just wanted to promote a healthy lifestyle."
