Telenet acquires all Belgian football rights
10.05 Europe/London, November 23, 2011 By Robert Briel

Belgian cable operator Telenet has secured the rights to all live Jupiler League football games from the 2012/13 season onwards.

Earlier this year Telenet acquired the exclusive rights to most of the Jupiler League matches, with the exception of the five matches played on Saturdays, which went to Belgacom TV.

However, the Pro League, the association of the Belgian football clubs, included a clause in the contract that makes it possible for Telenet to acquire non-exclusive rights to the Saturday matches.

Belgacom TV will continue to broadcast the Saturday games, but Telenet now has access to all of them. The operator has to pay an additional €4.8 million for the Saturday games, bringing the total cost of Belgian live football to €60 million a year.
