Telefonica/Vivo IPTV will reach greater Sao Paulo in 2013

The Brazilian cable, IPTV and DTH operator Telefónica/Vivo has announced that it will extend its IPTV service over Great Sao Paulo over the course of the second quarter in 2013. After releasing the platform at the beginning of November, the company has recorded 1.1 million homes passed with optic fiber necessary for IPTV and broadband, thus reaching 4.500 Pay-TV service subscribers.

Its IPTV Premium service in Brazil is similar to that launched by the firm in Chile in October. Both services, Vivo TV Fibra in Brazil and Movistar TV in Chile, are the first IPTV deployments that take advantage of the new global video platform and its capacities. In November 2011, Telefónica and Microsoft launched the first service enabled by GVP: Movistar Imagenio over Xbox 360. Said service offers subscribers 12 linear sport channels that include the Spanish First Soccer League (Liga BBVA) in Canal+ Liga.

The operator chose Cisco as its STB supplier for its ‘Vivo TV Fibra’ IPTV service. The firm also chose Ericsson as its video system integrator, which, in turn, will enable IPTV and VOD provision. Telefónica/Vivo IPTV service -which utilizes Microsoft Mediaroom middleware-, offers linear pay-TV and free-to-air TV channels, as well as access to social networks (Facebook, Twitter) and interactive applications. Likewise, it offers DVR Multiroom, VOD (transactional and subscription) and instant channel change.
