Strictly final to screen in 3D
09.56 Europe/London, August 2, 2011 By Julian Clover

The final of this year’s Strictly Come Dancing from Blackpool’s world famous Tower Ballroom is to be shown in 3D. It marks the first time that the BBC will screen an entertainment show in 3D and follows coverage of the Wimbledon singles finals in the 3D format.

As with Wimbledon, the Strictly final will be seen in 3D on the BBC HD channel to anyone with a suitably equipped TV set, while the HD transmission will be broadcast on BBC One HD. It will be available free-to-air on satellite, cable and terrestrial television. The final is normally seen in the week before Christmas.

Last year, the BBC recorded a special 3D dance sequence from the programme, which was shown in cinemas to promote the annual Children in Need appeal.

Veteran host, Sir Bruce Forsyth, said: “I’m a bit doubtful of being in 3D because I’ve never been in 3D before. I hope my chin doesn’t knock people off their sofas at home.”

Strictly Come Dancing, known internationally as Dancing with the Stars, will start its ninth season this autumn.
