October 10, 2014 11.23 Europe/London By Julian Clover

Spain’s economic crisis continues to have its impact on the TV sector. The turnover of pay-TV services fell by 7.1% in the first quarter of 2014 to €409 million.

Free to air services were able to increase revenue by 1.7% to €384 million.

Regulator CNMC said just 9 out of 100 people now have pay-TV services, representing 2.1 million subs.

DTT remains the preferred medium for watching TV with 82.7% of Spaniards choosing terrestrial, followed by cable and IPTV platforms (13.2%) and, finally, satellite television (4.1%).

The amount of television viewed by the average Spaniard has increased to 263 minutes per day, equivalent to 4 hours and 23 minutes.
