Skylink, CS Link come under pressure
August 1, 2012 10.44 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

The Luxembourg-based DTH platform operator M77 Group faces the prospect of being fined up to CZK20 million (€791,000) for violating the Electronic Communications Act in the Czech Republic.

This follows its decision to introduce a ‘service charge’ for what are advertised as free services on the DTH platforms Skylink and CS Link, both of which it owns.

In a progress report on an investigation it is conducting into the matter, the Czech Telecom Office (CTU) says that it has already received hundreds of complaints.

Furthermore, there may also be procedures launched by other authorities, including the regulator in Luxembourg.

However, the CTU also points out that it has no power to make the M77 Group reverse its decision, hinting that the best way to do so could be through consumer protests.
