Seventy full time staff have been recruited for the new Sky News Arabia over the last six months with a further 100 slated to join shortly.
In an upbeat statement from the Abu Dhabi Media Investment Corp-BSkyB joint venture director of news Nart Bouran said another 200 people would be recruited by the end of this year ahead of the planned 2012 launch. “We are very privileged and pleased with the response we’ve had from media professionals; as of today we have received over 12,000 applications for 370 advertised vacancies,” the former Reuters executive said.
The channel also recently awarded contracts to EVS to supply newsroom video server platforms, and a Harris/Omneon solution for the channel’s playout automation requirements. Systems Integration specialists, TSL, continue to work closely with our engineering team on the construction & commissioning of the broadcast systems infrastructure.
Technical, IT and broadcast infrastructure is now being deployed at Sky News Arabia’s main studio, handed over in June 2011. A network of international bureaus will come on-stream by the end of the year.
