Sky launches mobile Premiership coverage

BSkyB has announced plans for an on demand football service that will bring Premiership coverage across all of the UK and Ireland’s major mobile networks. 24-7 Football is being launched in partnership with sister company News Group Newspapers, the publisher of The Sun and Sunday-title the News of The World.

Coverage will include ‘in-game’ goal clips from the Barclays Premiership and UEFA Champions League. There will also be coverage from Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday and Soccer AM programmes. However, UEFA regulations mean goal clips will not be available on Saturday afternoons, though arguably the better matches have already been cherrypicked by pay-TV, and have kick-off times outside of the restriction.

Carriage has been confirmed on the T-Mobile, O2 and 3 networks in the UK and the O2 and 3 networks in the Republic of Ireland.

Separately, Sky Mobile TV will make available a live simulcast of Sky Sports 1, 2 and 3. Sky Sports will be offering live football coverage of the 92 Premiership matches it will be broadcasting live this season starting with Sunderland versus Tottenham Hotspur on 11 August. Sky Mobile TV has previously included coverage of UEFA Champions League, Ryder Cup golf, the Football League Play Offs, and England’s Ashes tour of Australia.
