Sky adds integrated Wi-Fi to new set-tops
August 29, 2013 10.24 Europe/London By Julian Clover

Sky has added Wi-Fi as standard to its Sky+ HD boxes as it looks to further build the number of customers connected to its on demand services.

Wi-Fi will now be built into Sky’s own-brand receivers on both standard and 2TB versions.

Luke Bradley-Jones, Sky’s Brand Director of TV Products, said: “We want even more people to enjoy these benefits, so we’re making it easier to get connected by launching our best ever Sky+HD box with built-in Wi-Fi and offering existing customers a free On Demand connector.”

Previously the paycaster has supplied a Wi-Fi adaptor, manufactured by AirTies, to the 2.7 million homes that requested connectivity. Sky is now offering such adapters free of charge to customers who wish to upgrade to the on demand service.

Sky has built a catch up service that includes hundreds of movies from both Sky Movies and on pay per view through the Sky Store. Most recently it has added Box Sets of top series.

It also says its latest boxes are the most energy efficient yet.
