SES enters Russian partnership
08.40 Europe/London, September 7, 2011 By Chris Dziadul

SES and Gazprom Space System (GSS) have entered into a strategic partnership to provide additional satellite capacity for the Russian market.

Under the terms of a multi-year agreement between the two parties, SES has relocated its Astra 1F satellite from 51 to 55 degrees East.

GSS will use 16 Ku-band FSS transponders on Astra 1F to provide communication services for Western Russia ahead of the launch of its Yamal-402 satellite in November next year.

In return, SES will use capacity on Yamal-402 once it becomes operational at 55 degrees East.

The use of Astra 1F is part of a strategic partnership to explore opportunities for the provision of satellite capacity for Russia.

GSS, which is a subsidiary of Gazprom, currently operates the satellites Yamal-201 and Yamal-202.
