SBS to launch 4th Dutch channel
November 15, 2013 06.55 Europe/London By Robert Briel

SBS Broadcasting will be launching a fourth, female-skewed channel in The Netherlands in 2014.

The news was announced by interim CEO Hans Edin during a presentation of the broadcaster’s winter schedule. He did not give any further details about the new channel.

SBS, which is owned by Sanoma and John de Mol’s Talpa, currently has three channels in the market, SBS6, Net 5 and Veronica. SBS6 is the main general entertainment channel, Net 5 is geared towards female viewers, while Veronica targets young males.

SBS’s main competitor RTL Nederland already has four main channels in the market, flagship channel RTL4, RTL5, RTL7 (male, during the day RL-Z business news) and RTL8 (female). The broadcaster also has three thematic channels, RTL Lounge, RTL Crime and RTL Telekids.
