Satelio is the name of a new satellite DTH platform offering German channels to viewers in Africa and the Middle East launching today, December 2.
A company called Deutscher Televisionsklub Betriebs GmbH, based in Isaming, is offering a bouquet of up to 18 channels to its viewers via the Intelsat-20 satellite on 68.5 degrees East using the DVB-S2/MPEG-4 standard.
The bouquet currently comprises RTL, Sat.1, RTL II, ProSieben, Vox, kabel eins, Super RTL, Puls 4, Sixx, N24, EuroNews, yourfamily, Jukebox, C-Music TV and Hitradio Namibia, but will be extended to a total of 18 TV channels plus six radio stations.
Remarkably, channels from the two main private broadcaster are available, but not the public broadcasters.
Subscriptions are available from $580 per year or $65 per month. Viewers need to buy the Satelio set-top box and connect this between their satellite receiver and TV set. Alternatively, Satelio is planning to use CI+ modules for receivers with a built-in CAM slot. There is a one-time activation fee of $10.
