Romtelecom pulls Pro TV services
January 7, 2013 10.03 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

RomtelecomRomtelecom has acted on its threat to remove most if not all of CME-backed Pro TV’s 11 channels from its offer.

According to the telco, this follows ‘unreasonable financial requests’ by Pro TV effectively tripling the cost of the channels and failure of negotiations between the two parties.

All 11 channels – Pro TV, Pro TV International, Pro TV HD, Acasa TV, Acasa Gold, Pro Cinema, Sport.ro. Sport.ro HD, MTV Romania and VH1 – are now no longer on Romtelecom’s TV grid, though Pro TV itself, due to must carry rules, is still being made available on IPTV and cable platforms.

Furthermore, all Pro TV’s channels can still be received through NextGen, a cable operator owned by Romtelecom.

The telco has also moved quickly to replace the missing channels with – amongst others – HBO, HBO Comedy, BBC Knowledge, Comedy Central, BBC World News – and, for subscribers with HD receivers, Eurosport 1 HD and Shorts HD.
