Romanian football rights sale examined

The Romanian Competition Council (CC) will receive a first report on the recent sale of 2011-14 football rights by the country’s Professional Football League (LPF) on July 15.
According to ZF, the report has been produced by an agent contracted by the LPF and will examine such issues as compliance by the parties involved.
The sale of the rights for Romanian premier league matches has proved to be a far from straightforward process.
It began in April, when RCS&RDS bought one package for €13.2 million, excluding VAT, and Romtelecom (€12.9 million) and Antena 1 (€10.5 million), bought two others.
However, this left six left unsold, and they were eventually acquired by RCS&RDS for a lower than expected €7.5 million each.
