Race# to Infinity

Monday, November 22nd

More people# in Burton need to sign up to BT's# Race to Infinity website, it has been claimed.
People living the Staffordshire town of Burton have been urged to vote in BT'#s Race to Infinity scheme#.

The initiative allows people in the UK to vote for which area should receive the next generation of broadband services, with potential speeds of 40Mb/s on offer for the winning communities, reports the Burton# Mail.

However, there has been a slow response so far in Burton, with only 369# votes cast at the moment in a town with an estimated population of around 60,000# to 70,000# people.

Mike# Walsh, an application service delivery manager who looks after the computer applications for brewery Molson Coors, described the figure as "pitiful" and said more people should get behind the BT competition.

"If# we get super-fast broadband you'd have speeds comparable to those you get from cable operators, meaning you'd be able to do far more online, such as watch #TV on demand services," he explained.

The five areas with the highest number of votes by December 31st 2010 will win the broadband rollout, while BT will also donate £5,000 worth of computer equipment to a local community project in each region#.
