Qatar to launch raft of new channels

The Qatar Media Corporation is to launch a raft of new channels and is particularly eyeing a revamp of its sports channels.
The corporation, which operates Qatar Television and Qatar Radio, is launching a new media strategy as it aims to develop the country’s media. Mubarak Jaham Al Kuwari, executive president of QMC, said that it aims to launch new television channels offering specialised services. “Our goal is to highlight local issues and the Qatari identity on screen,” he added.
The corporation plans to revamp its bouquet of sports channels as it has just received permission to broadcast international sporting events and tournaments for the first time. Previously, it was only allowed to telecast local sports events.
