Pressure mounts on nc+
March 28, 2013 08.10 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Poland’s Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) has received the first complaints from customers dissatisfied with the services offered by the new DTH platform nc+.

Confirming this to the local press, the Office’s spokesman Maciej Chmielowski said that as they were only submitted yesterday (March 27) he could not at this stage say whether they would be used as a basis for any formal action by the UOKiK.

The complaints have been received from former n and Cyfra+ subscribers, with their main argument being that they are being forced into taking the new service.

Essentially, they say they have been told they will be automatically switched to nc+ from May and put on a new contract (18 months rather than the current 15) that requires them to pay higher subscription fees.

They can refuse to enter into this new contract by informing nc+ beforehand, though some have tried to do so and encountered obstacles.

Broadband TV News has been contacted by several subscribers keen to explain the situation and the problems they are encountering.

Today (March 28), nc+ has responded to the criticism it is encountering.

Its president Julien Verley says that the reaction of subscribers to its offer has been so large it has been difficult for it to respond. It acknowledges communication problems, is treating every voice very seriously and will respond in the next few days.

It has also introduced special Easter offers for both former n and Cyfra+ subscribers.

NC+ was formed by the merger of n and Cyfra+ and officially made its debut on Thursday, March 21.

It currently has around 2.5 million subscribers.
