Poland’s second multiplex will cover 87% of the population from August 1, according to Piotr Siemieniec, the director of the national transmission company TP EmiTel.

Quoted in Rzeczpospolita, he added that this would be done by adding 22 new transmitters, 17 of which have already been operating on a trial basis, thereby bringing the total to 40.

The second multiplex was launched in September 2010 and is allocated solely to Poland’s leading commercial broadcasters Polsat, TVN, TV4 and TV Puls, each of which can distribute a total of two channels.

It currently carries seven channels, with the eighth to eventually be added being Puls 2.

The multiplex’s coverage will rise to 94% of the population at the end of this year and will reach its target of 97% by the end of 2013.
