Paramount inks Kazakh deal
07.28 Europe/London, July 13, 2011 By Chris Dziadul

The CTC Media-owned station Channel 31 has signed an exclusive two-year agreement with Paramount Pictures.

It is the first such package deal that the Kazakhstan-based broadcaster has entered into with a US major and will give it access to a large number of popular movies across different genres.

Almaty-based Channel 31 was launched in April 1992 and has operated as part of the Channel 31 Group, backed by CTC Media, since 2008.

Its programming schedule currently consists of Turkish and Korean series, local productions, Hollywood movies, local news programmes and some CTC Media shows.

Russia’s CTC Media, which lists MTG as its largest shareholder, operates the channels CTC, Domashny and DTV in its home market.

In addition to Kazakhstan, it also has a presence in Moldova.
