ORS plans HD over DVB-T2 in 2012
20.17 Europe/London, November 15, 2011 By Robert Briel

The Austrian facilities company ORS comm, part of public broadcaster ORF, has said it has applied for the two new nationwide muxes Mux E and Mux D.

Telecom regulator KommAustria closed the tender for the two multiplexes on Tuesday, November 15.

ORS comm. said it will broadcast up to 30 new channels, including a number of HD channels, among them ORF eins HD, ORF2 HD, ServusTV HD and ZDF HD.

ORS has also said it plans to launch ‘innovative’ services such as Video-on-demand and catch-up TV. “We will quickly introduce the new services when we receive the licence”, said Michael Wagenhofer, managing director of ORS comm.

The current DVB-T offer includes public and private national broadcasters ORF1, ORF2, ATV, Puls4, ServusTV, 3sat, ORF3 and ORF Sport Plus, as well as a few regional stations.

After the November 15 deadline, KommAustria will decide on the issuing of the new DVB-T2 licences.
