Orion Express: the first five years
July 27, 2012 11.10 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

The Russian DTH platform Orion Express is celebrating its fifth anniversary this month.

In a wide-ranging review, Mediaset reports that it ended the second quarter with 750,000 subscribers, making it the second largest satellite broadcaster in the country (after Tricolor TV) and the third largest provider of digital TV services.

It adds that Orion Express is a unique and pioneering platform, with its offer being available to individual viewers throughout the entire country.

As such, its coverage area is larger than that of any other platform in the world.

Orion Express was also the satellite platform in Russia to offer its subscribers internet access and one of the first to provide HD channels, launching a basic package free of charge in October 2010.

Orion Express has also launched finely targeted additional satellite services such as Continent, Telekarta and Orient Express, all of which have proved highly successful.
