Ono pins hopes on TiVo
08.32 Europe/London, July 27, 2011 By Chris Dziadul

The leading Spanish cable operator Ono expects to start marketing TiVo towards the end of this year. It also expects its introduction will lead to an increase in TV subscriber numbers, which have recently being falling.

Results published by the company show that it ended Q2 with 952,000 fibre TV customers, down from 959,000 three month earlier and 966,000 in the corresponding period in 2010.

Take up of internet services, on the other hand, continued to rise, with the 1,414,000 subscribers at the end of the second quarter 0.6% and 4.3% higher than three months and a year earlier respectively.

Take-up of Ono’s 30 Mbps and 50 Mbps high-speed internet products has been particularly impressive, with 270,000 subscribers, or 19% of the broadband base, opting for them as of the end of June.

Telephony take-up also grew, with 1,711,000 receiving services at the end of Q2, or 0.2% more than three months earlier. Ono posted revenues of €368 million in Q2, unchanged from the first quarter.

EBITDA was €187 million (+6%), while total net debt fell to €3,472 million (-5.8%). Net profit was €22 million (+90.4%) and total net debt /LTM EBITDA 4.70x (+0.41x).
