Numericable closes deal with Mobistar
February 17, 2012 11:22 By Robert Briel

Brussels based cable operator Numericable will enter the mobile market as an MVNO over the Mobistar network.

At first, the mobile service will be offered as part of a quad play offer to its existing 140,000 customers. Numericable serves ten municipalities including Brussels, Laeken, Anderlecht, Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, Neder-over-Heembeek, Haren, Watermael-Boitsfort, Saint-Josse-ten-Noode, Drogenbos and Wemmel.

Last year, Numericable was acquired by a consortium of Deficom, the holding company of businessman Philippe Lhomme, and the British venture capitalist Apax.

“The mobile offering is not as important as the other services, but we notice that there is demand,” CEO Pascal Dormal told Belgian press. “The time is the right for this step.”

Numericable follows in the footsteps of Telenet. The cable company is a virtual operator for several years on the Mobistar network. The group has more than 230,000 mobile customers. Together with Walloon cable operator VOO, Telenet acquired its own mobile licenser last year.
