New Dutch ‘golden oldies’ TV channel

On 31 August, a new music TV channel called 192TV will launch in the Netherlands. This date was chosen because 31 August is etched in the memory of many Dutch music lovers as “The Day The Music Died”. On that date in 1974, government legislation took effect that forced offshore stations Radio Veronica and Radio Noordzee to close down. 192 was the wavelength in metres of Radio Veronica for most of its time as an offshore station.
192TV will operate 24 hours a day nationwide on all the main cable systems with a format of ‘golden oldies’. It’s an initiative of Ad Bouman, a technician on Radio Veronica who went on to become a producer with Veronica TV, along with Rene Kroon and Bert van Breda.
The three wanted to create a new TV channel enabling fans of music from the past 50 years to enjoy their favourite artists, as well as providing information about the artists, what they’re doing now, and details of any new CD’s released by them.
192TV is targeted at people over 45. Besides well-known songs from the ’60s and ’70s, hits will also be played from the 80s, 90s and even the new millennium, complete with original jingles for Radio Veronica.
