Netflix confirms UK launch

Netflix has given confirmation that it will launch its service in the UK and Ireland from early 2012.
Consumers will be offered unlimited TV shows and films for instant streaming over the internet to TVs and computers for a single monthly subscription. In a statement the company said that more detail on content and pricing would be given at a later date, but promised a wide variety of consumer electronics devices would be capable of supporting the service.
Netflix has been the bete noire of the US cable market since its launch in 2007, amid fears of so-called cord-cutting. It added Canada in 2010 and 43 countries across Latin America and the Caribbean in September 2011,
The US service is priced at $7.99 per month. It is available across 700 devices including Microsoft’s Xbox 360, Nintendo’s Wii and Sony’s PS3 consoles; an array of Blu-ray disc players, Internet-connected TVs, digital video recorders and Internet video players; Apple’s iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, as well as Apple TV and Google TV.
