Nagra extends Ekioh agreement

Nagra has extended its partnership with Cambridge-based Ekioh to include the next generation OpenTV multi-service client platform.
Demonstrated at IBC 2012, the new OpenTV5 combines multiscreen, multi-device and multi-network environments into a single offering. It runs in part through the Scalable Vector Graphics and HTML5 engines provided by Ekioh.
“There is a huge momentum behind HTML5”, said Stephen Reeder, commercial director, Ekioh, “but HTML still struggles on low powered devices like set-top boxes. The combination of SVG & HTML5 delivers a highly responsive customer experience at the same time as being able to support third-party web-based applications.”
“We’re delighted to extend our relationship with Ekioh”, said Olivier Wellmann, VP product development at Nagra. “Their technology lead and market focus make them an ideal partner in this uniquely demanding environment. The flexibility that this technology partnership brings is key to OpenTV 5’s mission to deliver a secure and yet open platform for customer innovation.”
Ekioh is responsible for the most widely deployed SVG engine.
