MTV Brazil denies sale rumors and confirms VMA 2013
Helena Bagnoli, MTV Brazil director, has denied the rumors regarding a possible sale of the channel and disclosed information about the MTV Brazil Video Music Awards 2012 (VMB) in advance.
“At present, we are working on 2013 programming and next year, we will gather again for the next VMA”, Bagnoli stated. Therefore, the executive denied rumors regarding the possible sale of the channel and confirmed that MTV Brazil will be present in 2013. This year award ceremony will last four hours, it will offer opening shows (Planet Hemp) and closing shows (Racionais MC’s), and three new categories will be added (best band, best female artist and best male artist).
With the purpose of supporting Bagnoli’s statements, the channel’s commercial director, Sergio Amaral, explained that this year VMAs will rely on the sponsorship of eleven brands (Axe, Santander, Toyota and Uol, among others): “These brands discredit such rumors as they relate their names with MTVs”.
Last August, the website Folha de S.Paulo disclosed the possibility of Grupo Abril’s, owner of MTV Brazil, selling the channel due to its poor financial and audience results.
