MTS pay-TV growth stalls
08.18 Europe/London, September 7, 2011 By Chris Dziadul

Russia’s MTS ended the second quarter with 2,635,000 pay-TV subscribers in its home market, a slight reduction (2,000) on the figure three months earlier.

Its fixed broadband subscriber total meanwhile stood at 1,957,000 (+65,000) and total households passed for fixed services 10,079,000 (+94,000).

The company’s residential ARPU for fixed line services fell from R301 (€6.33) in the first quarter to R295 in the second “due to the overall pressure driving prices for internet access and pay-TV access down.”

In a separate development, MTS has announced plans to increase its stake in the Moscow City Telephone Network (MGTS) to 94.1%.

MTS is the leading provider of mobile services in Russia and also has a presence in several CIS markets.
