More DTH for Ukraine?
09.31 Europe/London, July 5, 2011 By Chris Dziadul

Non-commercial tests of a new Ukrainian DTH platform could begin as soon as the middle of this month.

Kommentarii reports that the service may be launched at a cost of $10 million (€6.88 million) and – significantly – would be backed by the Istil Group, which is headed by the billionaire Mohammad Zahoor.

The Istil Group previously backed the failed DTH platform Poverknost Plus, before selling its 55% in the company to Viktor Samoylenko last summer.

Test transmissions of several channels have apparently already been carried out by on Amos by Istil.

Ukraine is currently served by only one locally based DTH platform (Viasat Ukraine), though Russian services such as NTV-Plus and Tricolor TV are also available in the country.

MYtv, another locally-based service, also failed last year.
