Lowe’s to offer smart home kits based on AlertMe tech

AlertMe logoNorth American retailer Lowe’s has forged an alliance with UK firm AlertMe to sell smart home kits and services which use the latter’s cloud technology in its home improvement stores across North America.
The new cloud-based smart home solution touted by Lowe’s is called Iris and will enable users to monitor and control their home from anywhere using their smartphone, tablet or computer.
Based on AlertMe’s Smart Home platform and home hub, it will come in three different starter kits: one entry-level package (‘Iris Safe & Secure’) will cost US$ 179 and allow users to monitor the home when away via motion and contact sensors. The kit includes the Iris Hub, motion sensors, a keypad and door, window and cabinet sensors.
Another identically priced starter package called the ‘Iris Comfort & Control’ kit combines home automation with the ability to cut energy costs, combining the Iris Hub with a thermostat and smart plug.
The Iris Smart Kit will cost a heftier US$ 299 and combine both packages to deliver the full smart home solution, offering an Iris Hub, a motion sensor, a smart plug, a key pad, a range extender, a smart thermostat and two window, door and cabinet sensors.
Finally, there is also a US$ 9.99 per month Premium service which allows additional messaging to the homeowner for home events and includes a unique feature called ‘Iris Magic’, which allows customers to programme their home through the use of home modes and customised rules for home management.
The Iris kits are already available on Lowes.com, and will be available in 500 stores across North America by the end of August.
