F1 ace Lewis Hamilton has said that he thinks the British national anthem should be longer… because he'd like more time on the podium to celebrate his wins.

The McLaren driver and 2008 world champion made the odd announcement after victory at the German Grand Prix on Sunday.

Speaking to BBC Radio the 26-year-old said: "I am massively proud to hear the national anthem. The only thing is that everyone else’s is much longer than ours.

"When I stand up there and Felipe (Massa) has won, it’s ten minutes long and when I'm standing there it lasts half a minute. I would urge the UK to make our national anthem longer."
But is Lewis is fretting unnecessarily, or is he right to worry that his (national anthem) is much shorter than everyone else's?

Well, because at Grand Prix victory ceremonies only one verse of the anthem is played the F1 rendition of 'God Save the Queen’ last just 44.4 seconds.

This compares to the 54.4 seconds rendition of ‘Das Deutchlanlied' as heard after the many Sebastian Vettel wins, 57.3 seconds for the Formula 1 version of Advance Australia Fair and 1 minute 53.2 seconds for the Brazillian anthem.
