Poland's national broadcasting council has granted a concession for a national terrestrial local news oriented channel to Cable Television Network & Partners (CTNP).

The channel will develop ZoomTV, a joint project between the PIKSEL Foundation and Kino Polska TV, with Grupa Onet.pl acting as a content-providing partner. ZoomTV will be broadcast on the eighth DTT multiplex in Poland.

Currently, CTNP's sole shareholder is the PIKSEL Foundation, established by the Polish Chamber for Electronic Communication (PIKE). Once final, the deal will also see CTNP's share capital increase, enabling Kino Polska TV to take up a stake representing 49% of the company for PLN10 million. The partners behind the enterprise add that ZoomTV will collaborate closely on the programming and content with local broadcasters and with the Onet.pl web portal.

In terms of content, ZoomTV will broadcast news and other programming concerning local and regional issues as well as local self-government and NGO topics. It will promote grassroots initiatives and will be producing programmes educating viewers on self-government, community development, and citizen participation.

PIKE will contribute local news and policy content while Kino Polska TV will be responsible for broadcasting, production, and for delivering other types of programming. ZoomTV will also receive support from Grupa Onet.pl S.A. The new channel will air video coverage provided by the editorial team at Onet.pl in addition to other news and entertainment content produced by the portal's journalists and reporters.
