Intelsat inks major CEE deals
08.46 Europe/London, September 11, 2011 By Chris Dziadul

Intelsat has secured two major deals with leading satellite platforms in Central and Eastern Europe.

In Russia, it has just signed a multi-year, multi-transponder agreement with the DTH platform operator Orion Express for SD and HD content.

To support it, the company will move a Ku-band satellite to 85 degrees East by Q1 2012, thereby allowing its fleet to deliver more capacity to Orion Express.

Once in the 85 degrees East slot, the satellite is expected to remain in service until 2023, covering western Russia right up to the Siberian city of Irkutsk.

Meanwhile in Romania, Intelsat says that RCS&RDS has renewed its contract for all DTH capacity at the company’s I degree West video neighbourhood.

The long-term deal was actually signed in June but has only now been announced. Intelsat’s other customers for the one degree West orbital slot include Viacom, Discovery and ESS, a company with facilities in Romania, Bulgaria and Moldova that distributes local content.
