I would like to understand my dreambox

Hi,

I'm currently living in a country where they sell dreamboxes at stores as they sell bread in bakeries... So when I moved in, I had a TV system wired, with what appears to be a DM500s dreambox.
I was curious so I started discovring this whole world. It appears to be one of the cheap chinese clones I saw people talking about, and in stores they are selling it at approx. 40 euros...
When I turn it on, I see a splash screnn wiht "The GP", which stands for "The Gemini Project" as I learned. I believe this a custom image that permits installation of addons, some of them allowing cams, etc...

So I came to the point that I have a few quesions that I could not find answers for. I tried to access the web interface, it asks for a password that is not root/dreambox. I'm working on this, to reset back the password to default. But I can't install tuxbox commander as I saw in tutorials to do this (when I try to download from Gemini-Server, I get an error about the URL, I believe this is done on purpose...). So I'm planning to do a manual install with mounted folder. Anyway, I would like to know these things :
- How can I know if it is using Enigma 1 or Enigma 2 ?
- I have downloaded a RAR archive containing Tuxbox commander, can you tell me how can I turn it into a .tar.gz or whatever installable package ?

Firstly, DM500s are Enigma1 boxes.
Secondly, to clear the problems you have, I suggest you do a backup of you files, then flash a new clone-safe image. Please search and READ info on this Forum on how to flash the box. All the tools and tutorials are available here.
