Hungary expands pay-DTT service

13.42 Europe/London, September 20, 2011 By Chris Dziadul

The Hungarian national transmission company Antenna Hungária (AH) will significantly expand its DTT offer on October 1 by launching a third multiplex.
In doing so, the number of channels available to viewers will be increased by 13 to 31, representing more than 80% of cumulated audience share.
Based on the modification of Authority Contract with the regulatory authority NMHH and new transmission contract (the so-called FlexMux contract) with MTVA, AH will form of public service multiplex (MUX A) at the beginning of next month.
To do so, it will move Duna TV and Duna 2 to MUX A, while the commercial channels TV2, RTL Klub, euronews, Hir TV, ATV, Sportklub, Info Channel and NeoFM will transfer to MUX C.
At the same time, there will be a swap of frequencies on MUX B and C in four regions, in line with MUX B being made available for DVB-T at the expense of DVB-H services.
MUX B will then carry the 13 additional channels, which will be made available to the existing seven FTA and 10 basic package programmes on the MinDig TV Extra pay service.
The additional channels will be Viasat 3, Comedy Central, Universal Channel, Spektrum, History, Sport 1, Sport 2, Minimax, Cartoon Network, PRO4, Prizma TV, Muzsika TV and Dorcel TV.
The 30-channel offer will be available for an initial monthly promo price of HUF1,990 (€6.87) and will reach 81% of the population through 19 transmitter sites.
MinDigTV had 37,000 subscribers at the middle of this month and the total is expected to exceed 50,000 by the end of the year.
The main MinDig TV offer is meanwhile received in almost 250,000 households.
