Greece’s ET1 could be forced to close down
August 19, 2011

Greek public broadcaster ET1 could be forced to close as part of wide-ranging cost-cutting being put forward by the country’s debt ridden government.

The government has introduced public spending cuts, which were approved by the Cabinet, and streamlining of state broadcasting services is one of the key planks of the policy announced by Minister of State Ilias Mossialos. The channel, which is the flagship channel of the ERT, the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation, could be forced to close alongside its digital channels – movie network Cine Plus and sports channel Sport Plus.
