A ruling could shake up the TV rights related to football in Europe. According to the European Union's high court football fans should be free to use the cheapest available satellite box to watch the games, even if this goes against the exclusive agreements signed by the broadcasters with the various national sports leagues.

THE JUDGEMENT - The European Court of Justice declared that "contrary to Community law" all those signed exclusive contracts that prevent broadcasters from fans to foreign countries to see the matches of the national championships with cheaper decoders. The decision mainly affects the lucrative contract signed by the Premier League with a number of European broadcasters and could have a huge impact on the income that the English league is able to obtain from the sale of its TV rights in the rest of Europe. Everything stems from a fact the owner of pubs in England within the room that used a decoder with a card cheaper than the equivalent British and Greek for this had been fined for an amount equal to 8,000 pounds (9,400 euros). :nana:
