Football fails to lift Prisa
November 18, 2013 11.11 Europe/London By Julian Clover

Troubled Spanish media giant Prisa has insisted that its efforts in cost control are continuing, despite pay-TV revenues failing to compensate for the higher cost of football rights.

The Canal Plus pay-TV business increased revenues by 11.6%, but EBITDA fell by 84.6%. €867 million revenues delivered just €25 million EBITDA.

DTH subs have reached 7,818 and 15,087 positive net adds in August and September respectively. The third quarter of 2013 was the first with a positive gain in subscribers since the first quarter of 2012.

The satellite platform has 1,634,000 subscribers; other platforms bring in a further 123,000. 613,000 subscribers have the iPlus DVR.

Satellite subscribers stood at an average ARPU of €42.5. Online YOMVI subscribers now stand at 25.3% of Satellite subscribers (compared to 13.2% at September 2012), with 2.61 million monthly downloads.
