Football's governing body may ban players from wearing snoods for health and safety reasons, it has been announced.

According to Yahoo Eurosport, FIFA intends to discuss snoods at the International Football Association board meeting this March in Cardiff.

A FIFA spokesperson said: "We want a debate over the snood and whether it could be dangerous.

"There may be a safety issue - if, for example, a player was running through on goal and an opponent grabbed his snood, that could pose a potential danger to his neck."

Snoods have become popular with star players like Manchester City's Carlos Tevez and Arsenal's Samir Nasri. However, Sir Alex Ferguson has reportedly banned them at Manchester United.

A wide range of topics - ranging from the use of goal-line technology to the colour of players' tights - will be discussed at the IFA board meeting.
